Butler County Rta Introduces Affordable Non-Emergency Medical Transportation On September 1, 2008
(HAMILTON, OHIO), August 20, 2007 ... The Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) is pleased to announce the kickoff of its new non-emergency Medical Shuttle services effective September 1, 2008. The BCRTA Medical Shuttle will operate Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis or by advanced reservations. All BCRTA vehicles are wheelchair lift equipped. Individuals with disabilities will be given first priority and will be able to bring a personal aide onboard at no additional costs. The service area will focus on the southeastern portion of Butler County, including the cities of Hamilton and Fairfield, West Chester, Liberty and Fairfield Townships. Trips from other portions of Butler County will be accommodated when space is available or through advance reservations.
Passenger fares for this service will be as low as $5.00 per one-way trip and pre-arranged personal aides ride free. Surcharges may apply for trips outside the target service area. County medical facilities are encouraged to contact the BCRTA if they wish to explore partnership opportunities for premium client transportation services (e.g., guaranteed client trips, group trips, special events, etc.).
Mr. Orion Bell, BCRTA Board President notes, “This service will fill a void in Butler County for affordable, general public, non-emergency medical trips to medical appointments, pharmacies, hospitals, and specialized medical centers such as dialysis, outpatient surgery centers, and medical clinics. BCRTA is pleased to support Butler County’s quality of life by bringing this critical transportation service to our county.”
This service is made possible through a New Freedom Grant provided by the Ohio Kentucky Indiana Council of Governments (OKI). Eligibility for the grant required the project to address a service gap identified in the OKI Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan, and target persons with disabilities as well as the general public.
